Ireland, Summer of 1579
Norma
le Blanc is content with the religious duties that fill her life, until the day
Spanish ships drop anchor in Dingle Bay, and their gorgeous captain, Vicente de
Vivar, tries to charm her from her straight-laced ways. As he seeks her
attention in moonlit gardens and at candlelit dinners, Norma finds herself magnetized
in a way she has never felt before.
Across
the channel in England, Elizabeth I is furious that smugglers frequent her
stronghold in Dingle without paying her taxes. What’s more, she’s cautious of foreigners
in Ireland, now that she and Ireland are at war. When she sends a Mr. Flood to
investigate, Vicente and his crew seem doomed for prison.
What
Elizabeth doesn’t know is that Vicente came for more than selling illicit
goods. His cargo is full of chests of Spanish gold, brought for the express purpose
of funding the war between England and Ireland. Vicente does all he can to pull
the wool over Mr. Flood’s eyes, but when Elizabeth has Flood arrested for
failure to perform his duty, his testimony will be all that’s needed to send
the Spaniards to jail.
Norma’s
love for Vicente flames even more, as she is unable to ignore the resilience of
a man who stands by his convictions, no matter the cost. Knowing he must leave,
she is torn over losing the bravest man she has ever known.
But
just as Vicente is about to set sail, Dingle is set on fire by Elizabeth’s
enemies. Vicente rescues Norma, and together, they lead the villagers to safety
in the mountains.
It
is then that he is forced to confront the feelings which may cause him to drop
anchor for the first time in his life.
Based
on Dingle’s infamous history, THE SMUGGLER'S VISIT reveals the beauty of being
able to love, even when one is vastly different from ourselves.
