Wales, 1169.

Alice thought life on the Welsh farm was hard, but when her mother dies and her father is thrown in jail, her life becomes more difficult than she could have imagined. Forced to take a tavern job, she meets Reese de Saint-Jean, a Norman lord who has a heart, as well as eyes that glow like no others. When he asks Alice to keep house at his estate, their feelings become inextricably entangled.

Reese's love for Alice heightens his awareness of the way Normans have exploited the poor, as Mayor de Braose did in confiscating Alice's farm for a profit. Reese makes an enemy of the mayor when he threatens to reveal his greed and corruption to the world. In revenge, Mayor de Braose exercises his authority to send Reese into battle on the coast of Ireland, where England is preparing to invade. Too in love to be parted, Alice joins the soldiers. What transpires on the cliffs of Ireland will change their lives forever. The battle is brutal, and the strange outcome is the last thing anyone expected. Only a keen twist of fate might save the couple now . . .

Based on a true event, THE HEART RUNS WILD proves that love, even in near-impossible circumstances, may still have the power to conquer all.
